How Chemical Peels help in removing wrinkles

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010

Chemical peels are a cosmetic surgery procedure that helps remove wrinkles and other signs of aging. A combination of acids and chemicals are applied to the skin to dissolve the outer layer to disclose fresh and younger skin underneath.

A chemical peel treatment lasts between 10 minutes to an hour and may at times, have to be repeated till you are happy with the results. However as giving a chemical peel does not need any medical degree, you have to check the experience and references of the person giving you a chemical peel.

Types of chemical peels

Chemical peels come in various levels; mild ones using alphahydroxy acids (AHA), that require various treatments to reduce wrinkles. There may be slight stinging during the working of the acid mixture here. The next level of chemical peel is the trichloroacetic acid peel that is deeper than the AHA peel but has a short recovery period.

The deepest chemical peel uses phenol to eliminate wrinkles and other blemishes to give long-lasting results. However this peel is the riskiest, with the longest recovery period where you have to keep the face bandaged, and apply make up only after a few weeks’ time. As all these chemical peels make your skin sensitive to sunlight, you have to wear a sunscreen in sunlight to avoid overexposure.

Results

The results of AHA and TCA peels in removing wrinkles are not as dramatic as the results of a phenol peel. However most patients report smoother and younger looking skin after AHA and TCA peels than after a phenol peel.

Moreover, while you have to undergo various treatment sessions to experience the results from AHA and TCA peels, a phenol peel gives a more dramatic and long lasting result.

So if you have to decide which chemical peel is best for you, you can choose based on the results you want to achieve, and the amount of recovery time you can afford after the peel.

How is laser resurfacing performed?

Monday, July 12th, 2010

If you have always wanted to undergo skin laser resurfacing, dermabrasions or chemical peels to get rid of scars or wrinkles, but were hesitant about doing it because of its long recovery period or anesthesia, you need not worry any more.

This is because the latest technology in skin resurfacing, pixel skin resurfacing is the solution for you. Pixel skin resurfacing helps in removing all your scars and wrinkles, with a fast recovery time so that you can quickly return to your daily activities.

The procedure

Pixel skin resurfacing is a skin resurfacing treatment using superior technology with fewer risks and a faster healing time. Here, an Erbium Yag laser is used for skin resurfacing instead of a CO2 laser.

It is possible to tighten skin on the neck and eyelids with pixel laser resurfacing, and improve overall skin quality by inducing collagen modeling in the skin. This helps in improving the tone and texture of the skin while reducing any discoloration in the skin due to age and UV ray exposure.

Besides all this, laser skin surfacing also helps in decreasing visible pore size, improving acne scars, smoothening fine lines and wrinkles, improving laxity and in decreasing hyper pigmentation.

Laser skin resurfacing

Basically, a dot pixel hand-piece is used for removing small fractions of the skin in a localized ablation, and not a total ablation like other technologies. Here, the tiny pixelations of skin are lasered in the assigned zone in such a way that 65% of the lasered skin around the pixel therapy treated regions remains untreated.

The reason this is done is because this untouched skin acts as a reservoir by promoting the rapid healing of the skin. this helps in improving the recovery time of laser skin rejuvenation so that you can quickly return to your daily routine.

Reduce even stretch marks

Pixel laser resurfacing helps reduce the difficult to treat acne and keloid scars while rejuvenating skin. Even stretch marks are considerably reduced after a few sessions of pixel laser facial resurfacing.

Unlike other laser skin resurfacing techniques, pixel laser resurfacing is gentle on the skin and is much more effective in a shorter span of time. Pixel skin resurfacing is completed within 20 minutes and gives results similar to that of traditional laser facial resurfacing techniques. However you usually need to undergo a series of 5 treatments given at intervals of 2-4 weeks for complete skin rejuvenation.
