Using the principle of selective photothermolysis, these vessels can be selectively heated and collapsed without damaging the surrounding healthy tissue. Depending on the nature of the vessels, either the Nd:YAG or an AFT treatment head on the HarmonyXL can be used to produce the desired effect. In fact, using a combination of 1064-nm laser light in conjunction with various broadband AFT treatment parameters has, in many cases, been shown to be more effective than laser treatment alone.
